The Sleep Tight™ - weighted blanket (Patent Pending)

The Sleep Tight™ is a weighted blanket to help you or your child fall asleep and stay asleep. It is designed for adults and children age three years and older.

Calming down for sleep is difficult for many people. Swaddling, which is gentle pressure from a blanket, has been used to help soothe babies since ancient times. The gentle pressure of The Sleep Tight™ provides similar calming effects as swaddling. Use of The Sleep Tight™ is an effective way to help calm down for sleep and stay asleep.

The Sleep Tight™ Patent Pending design has a curved cut out portion at the top of the blanket. This innovative design allows the blanket to contour around the shoulders and under the chin for a great fit and maximum comfort. Never place the blanket over the face. To concentrate the weight of the blanket on the body, The Sleep Tight™ is intentionally designed to be smaller than a regular blanket to most effectively distribute the weight on the body instead of on the bed. We have chosen a soft corduroy fabric to further encourage calming down for sleep.

Unlike other weighted products worn during the day that have wearing time limitations, The Sleep Tight™ can be worn all night or may be taken off after the person has fallen asleep. As the blanket provides additional insulation, you will want to keep your room at a temperature that prevents the wearer from overheating.

The Sleep Tight™ weighted blanket is very effective with people who have the following diagnoses and difficulties: General stress, Anxiety, Sleep difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Sensory Processing Dysfunction and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Our products should be used under the supervision of an adult.

Materials: The Sleep Tight™ is made with cotton corduroy and filled with a non-toxic and hypoallergenic PET pellet material.

Washing/Drying Instructions: You may machine wash your Sleep Tight™ and you may dry it in the dryer on low heat or on a drying rack. For the Medium, Large and Extra Large Sleep Tight™ sizes please check your washer and dryer instructions for weight recommendations. It may be better to wash these in a commerical washer and dryer.

Why do you not recommend the 10% of body weight or 10% of body weight plus 1 pound as many other blanket makers do?

This weight recommendation is based on the research done on weighted vests and backpacks. Weighted blankets are used in an entirely different way. The individual is not standing or bearing the weight of the blanket while standing as is the case with weighted vests and backpacks. The useful weight for Weighted Blanket is most often more than 10% of the persons body weight and should be heavy enough to be effective but light enough for the user to remove the blanket at will.

How did you come up with the weight recommendations for the Weighted Blankets?

These are recommnedations based on experience trying different weights for many individuals during my work in therapy clinics as an Occupational Therapist. These are the weights that we have found to be most commonly effective as reported by parents, the users and my observations.
