At Sommerfly™ we design and offer weighted and non-weighted products to help children and adults achieve calmer states. Weighted blankets, and other weighted products simulate deep pressure touch, which has been proven to help focus, calm and relax a person. It is a technique that is particularly effective for persons with Sensory Processing Disorder or Autism. Our product designer is an Occupational Therapist who has specialized in Pediatrics for more than 20 years. If your loved one suffers from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder or Autistic Spectrum Disorder, we have a product perfect for your unique situation!

We are pursuing patents and currently have Patent Pending status on the innovative designs of The Lapper™, The Holdster™, WrapArounds™, The Relaxer™, and The Sleep Tight™.

What helps you feel calm and/or focused?

We all unconsciously - and sometimes consciously - use techniques to calm or focus ourselves or others. You have most likely given or received these types of deep pressure touch - a friendly hand placed on a shoulder to help focus, a comforting back rub to help get to sleep, a big bear hug when we are upset, or, in the case of an infant, when they are swaddled to help them calm down. Our products work well for almost any fidgety child, but they are extremely effective for children or adults battling the effects of any of the following difficulties or ailments: Anxiety, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), or Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

These are all examples of how we use deep pressure touch in our every day lives to help us calm, focus or relax. Using weighted products is a wonderful way to get the benefits of deep pressure touch.

What are the different products most effective for?

Try our Sleep Tight™, a weighted blanket, to help one drift off to sleep and stay asleep. The Relaxer™ is a travel-sized weighted blanket designed to help a person reach a state of calmness during or after a difficult or stressful day. The Lapper™, a weighted lap bag, helps children focus during meal time, circle time and table work time. The Wrap Around™ is a weighted sash designed to help children focus during pre-school and kindergarten school activities.

What are our products made of?

Our weighted blankets, pads and other specialty products are made in the USA with 100% cotton corduroy and filled with non-toxic and hypoallergenic PET pellets.

The Fidgety™ is designed with a non-latex elastic band.

The Holdster™ is made of ribbon and nylon webbing and the chew fidget is made with FDA Food Grade Silicone.

All of our products machine washable and can be dried in the dryer on low heat or on a drying rack. For Medium, Large and Extra Large Sleep Tight™ and Medium and Large Relaxer™ sizes, please check your washer and dryer instructions for weight recommendations. It may be better to wash these in a commercial washer and dryer.

What are PET pellets?

PET pellets are used to make bottles for beverages and film for packaging food.

Covers are Now Available!

We now offer covers for our Lappers™, Relaxers™ and Sleep Tights™. Covers are currently available in corduroy and will soon be available in cozy fleece. Fleece covers will come in cute patterns or can be ordered in solid colors for both boys and girls. Please see the product page for ordering information for the related product covers.

While all of our products are washable, covers generally reduce the need for washing and are especially efficient in a multi-user environment.
