 What is a weighted blanket?

A weighted blanket is a sensory tool designed to provide calming deep pressure through evenly distributing weight. Our blankets are carefully constructed with securely stitched pouches filled with safe, BPA-free PET pellets. This gentle pressure mimics the feeling of a swaddle or firm hug, which is known to help support the parasympathetic nervous system, putting the body into “rest and digest” mode.

 How heavy should be my blanket be?

The ideal weight range is typically 15–25% of a person’s body weight, depending on individual sensory preferences and strength. Contrary to outdated guidelines that suggest 10%, current research supports a higher range for effective calming pressure.

Pro Tip: If you or the user has reduced strength or mobility, we recommend our Sleep Tight™ Light—a lighter-weight version that still offers the benefits of deep pressure.


 Where do you get your weight recommendations?
Our designs are informed by clinical practice and peer-reviewed research, including work by Dr. Tina Champagne and other leaders in occupational therapy and sensory modulation. We continuously adapt our guidelines based on the latest evidence and customer feedback.


 Are your products washable?
Yes! All Sommerfly™ products—except our Wipe-Clean line which are meant for external washing only—are machine washable for easy maintenance. Our Wipe-Clean™ collection is made from ultra-durable, hospital-grade fabric that can be sanitized quickly with approved disinfectant wipes making it perfect for schools, clinics, hospitals, and multi-user environments.


 What is used for inside the weighted blanket?

We use high-quality PET pellets that are:

  • BPA-free
  • Phthalate-free
  • Lead-free

These pellets are chosen for their durability, safety, and ability to provide even weight distribution, and have been tested to perform reliably for years in all our products.


 What is the Sleep Tight™ Light?

This is a lighter-weight version of our original Sleep Tight™ Blanket, designed for individuals who prefer or require less pressure. It’s ideal for:

  • Older adults (65+)
  • Individuals recovering from illness
  • Anyone with reduced strength or mobility

You’ll still experience the calming effects of deep pressure—just with a gentler touch.


 What is the Wipe-Clean?
Our Wipe-Clean™ line is made with high-performance, medical-grade material that does not require machine washing. Simply wipe down with any approved disinfectant. This design has proven to be ideal for multi-user environments such as schools, hospitals, therapy centers, or homes needing frequent sanitization.


 Where are the blankets made?
Every Sommerfly™ product is proudly handcrafted in the USA. We use premium, non-toxic materials and uphold the highest standards in safety, precision, and durability.


 Do we take POs?
Yes, we accept POs from schools, clinics, hospitals, and other organizations.

 What is your return policy?

We here at Sommerfly want you to be fully satisfied with your purchase. If you need to return an item, please review the following policy:

Returns

  • Returns are accepted within 30 days of the purchase date.
  • To initiate a return, please contact us at orders@sommerfly.com to receive a Return Authorization (RA) and the correct return shipping address.
  • Restocking fee of 15% will be charged for orders over $500

Conditions

  • Products must be unused and in original condition.
  • Return shipping fees are the customer’s responsibility unless the item is defective.
  • Once we receive and inspect the returned item, we will issue a repair, replacement, or credit at our discretion.

International Orders (Canada)

Orders shipped to Canada may be subject to customs fees upon delivery. These fees are the customer’s responsibility and are not included in our product pricing or shipping rates.

If your product has a manufacturing defect, we will provide a replacement at no cost to you.
